Common Questions

What is aeroponics?

Aeroponics is the process of growing plants in an air or mist environment without use of soil or an aggregate media. The word aeroponic is derived from the Latin word ‘aero’ (air) and ‘ponic’ mean labour (work). This is an alternative method of soil-less culture in growth-controlled environments.  Click here to read more.

Why does aeroponic grow faster?

The environment, more specifically the increased oxygen, causes the plants to grow faster, when compared to other growing mediums (soil, coco coir, water).  Nutrient uptake (intake) also contributes to the accelerated growth. On average, GB plants are fully mature and ready at least 4 weeks before their soil counterparts and 2 weeks before their hydro counterparts.  Click here to read more.

Why does GB grow this way?

Yes, it's much less common and much more challenging than other grow methods, but the benefits are considerable.  At GB, we're lucky.  Co-founder and cultivation expert Christian Emmett has spent years perfecting our signature growing method.  Also, for many reasons, aeroponic grow techniques are the way of the future.  Click here to read more.

Do aeroponics impact the quality of the plant?

Yes.  If executed properly with intention, care, and experience, aeroponic growing increases the quality of plants.  It is important to note that certain types of plants are more conducive to this method than others. Click here to read more.

Does aeroponically-grown cannabis result in less coughing if smoked?

The cannabis plant, among other plants, is effective in addressing bioaccumulation (the accumulation over time of substances, especially contaminants, in a living organism). It is often called a hyperaccumulator because of how effective it is at "sucking up" contaminants from soil through the root system.  Aeroponics eliminates this accumulation process, leading to more pristine, healthier plants.  This is what leads to reduced throat irritation and less harsh coughing after smoking, in comparison to cannabis grown in soil.  Click here to read more.

Are aeroponics linked to stoners?

Haha.  Not stoners...but one specific stoner - Richard Stoner.  While aeroponics concepts were documented in the 1920s and some major developments occurred in the 1950s, Richard Stoner is often thought of as the "Father of Modern Aeroponics." His work, including research funded by NASA, advanced commercial aeroponics.  Click here to read more.

What does cannabis grown aeroponically look like?

What are the benefits of aeroponically grown cannabis?

When considering our own work, we can report the following benefits: less supply waste (no soil, no run-off) and more eco-friendly practices (less electricity, steady steps towards achieving zero-waste process).  We also have an increased annual yield, in comparison to other operations, and harvestable roots for the Green Anchor operation. In regards to flower quality, since we employ a more precise approach to nutrient intake, we have more control, resulting in the exact desired genetic and potency balance.
